Imagine what might happen if the majority of women emerged from their labor beds with a renewed sense of the strength and power of their bodies, and of their capacity for ecstasy through giving birth. When enough women realize that birth is a time of great opportunity to get in touch with their true power, and when they are willing to assume responsibility for this, we will reclaim the power of birth and help move technology where it belongs —in the service of birthing women, not as their master.

Waiting forty weeks to meet the small being growing inside you is no easy task.

It requires patience and hard work.

Not much different from the hours you will spend laboring to bring your child into this world.

(More patience and hard work)

No matter your choices, or your circumstances, I work with you, finding ways that can support and nurture you during your labor.

As a doula: I am a space maker.  map-reader.  labyrinth walker.

And while I believe deeply in the powerful, transformative nature of birth  it is often an intense experience that is not very straightforward.  Our world is so loud, laboring women often need the support of an extended birth team to help navigate the wilds of birth and postpartum.

I trained as a doula with some of the best Los Angeles has to offer –local midwives and doulas I now call mentors and friends.  Over the years, I have found my own unique ways (yet universal) to offer support to the laboring mother –sounding, massage, guided meditation, counter pressure, advocacy and education.  I also work with two local/national doula registries as well: LOOM and Carriage House Birth.

Inclusivity and social justice issues are important issues to me as well;  both in the birthing world and in my artistry (and of course at home).  I strongly believe in advocacy and education.  Hate, prejudice, misogyny, and sexism are not welcome in anyone's birth space.

I have attended over 150 births but also believe in continuing my own education as a doula. I spent a year in midwifery school and  have attended workshops such as The Hormonal Physiology of Birth, From Womb to World, and a three day Birthing From Within worksop.

I consider it an honor to not only celebrate the power of birth, but the wonderfully strong nature of our bodies -no matter what your labor looks like.  As a mother of three, I know how important it was for me to be supported during my labor; and I look to be a supportive source of strength in yours....

I would be honored to be a part of your support team during the birth of your child! Here is a bit more about me, my thoughts on birth and what I offer:

  • an interview Here is where you get to know a bit more about me and I get to know you. At the core of my being, I believe it is invaluable for you to connect and feel comfortable with the Doula you chose to be present at your birth. Maybe this means meeting 10 different doulas before you have that connection, maybe it means you only need to meet just one. This is your baby's birth and it is so important that you surround yourself with people you trust and have faith in.

If you decide we are a great fit, then:

  • We have 2 prenatal appointments and 2 postpartum visits.

I want to build on the connection we have. I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable in my presence.  I don't want you to feel you have to birth in one way or another just for me. The more we spend time with each other, the easier this is for you. Remember DOULA is the Greek word for female servant. I am here to enhance and help you with your labor, not to make it more stressful.

  • I provide educational information + suggested readings to build on your knowledge about pregnancy and labor.

  • I also provide information about breastfeeding.

  • We go over alternative relief measures for comfort during labor.

  • I am on call 24/7 from 37 weeks on, until the birth of your sweet babe. I also offer telephone/email/texting support during pregnancy and pre-labor.

  • Once active labor has started I am there for you. I work my hardest to be a source of support for you and your partner during birth and beyond.

“Spontaneous labour in a normal woman is an event marked by a number of processes so complicated and so perfectly attuned to each other that any interference will only detract from the optimal character. The only thing required from the bystanders is that they show respect for this awe-inspiring process by complying with the first rule of medicine -Nil Nocere [Do no harm].
